A few months back, I did my most painful facial treatment ever - Thermage.
I've read quite a bit about Thermage online, and I chose to get my treatment done at my usual facial clinic since I'm using their skincare products daily as well.
I was told that the most obvious results of the treatment would be seen about 3 months later, so I wanted to post some comparison photos and share the process.
Thermage is a process where heat pulses are sent into the deeper layer of your skin, and this heat will in turn stimulate collagen production.
Collagen is the structural protein that keeps your face supple and youthful looking, and prevents it from sagging. As we get older, the collagen production in our skin slows down, and our skin appears less taut.
And this is where treatments like Thermage can help.
The areas of thermage that I did were my cheeks, jawline, and eye area.
My doctor first put on some grids on my face, as indicators of the areas he need to do the treatment at, and for each spot, he repeated the process several times with gradually increasing intensity.
I requested for my doctor to focus more on the right side of my face as my face had some asymmetry, with the right side being chubbier than the left.
So he raised the power of the treatment higher for the right side of my face.
There are many other bloggers who did this treatment before me, and I heard that some said the treatment wasn't very painful to them.
I'll be honest with you though, my pain tolerance probably wasn't as high as theirs, and so I actually teared during the treatment nearing the end when the voltage was higher haha!
But the end result was worth it!
Instantly after, my eyes felt LIFTED and rejuvenated, although I didn't get much sleep the night before. It was a really cool feeling cause my double eyelids looked more obvious too!
Over the next few days, there was mild swelling and slight pain only at the right side of my jawline, due to me being greedy and asking my doctor to focus more on that area haha.
But the pain and swelling subsided within days, and it was barely noticeable, but only obvious to me cause I kept staring at my face for changes.
Fast forward to 3 months post treatment, my face definitely looks sharper, and I need to photoshop my jawline lesser now.
JAWLINE NO PHOTOSHOP!
This photo is taken from a lower angle, which usually would turn out pretty disastrous, so I'm quite pleased with how this photo turned out.
The jawline on the right side of my face has always been my concern because it's chubbier than my left jawline. My doctor assured me that everyone's faces will have a bit of asymmetry here and there so not to worry T~T
Most of my photos you see on my IG are still photoshopped, but I realised I need to retouch my jawline lesser now.
You can also check out my IG videos to see my face shape!
If not for this post, I'd have pushed in my jaw on the right a little hahah, but this is untouched jawline just to show the results!
At least double chin isn't visible, I'm thankful enough.
Also untouched, but a more strategic angle cause I tilt up my head xD
Yay for a visible jawline!!
Well I can explain... I'm not one of those girls blessed with long faces & defined jawlines and nice chins.
Even with Thermage, if I were to do stupid faces like these, you can still see my short chubby face hahah.
Immediately after the Thermage treatment, I've also been religiously using my skincare products and there were no problems :)
In fact, the C-PLUS actually works in tandem with maintaining the results of Thermage because it increases collagen production, reduces fine lines and wrinkles etc too!
The average price of Thermage treatment ranges from $3,500 (for face) to $4,400 (for face & neck).
Would I do the treatment again?
It's like a love-hate relationship with the thermage treatment.
I'm extremely afraid of the pain that ensues, but at the same time, I don't think I could give up on its positive effects, especially now that I'm getting closer to the big 3.
I was informed that other patients would return once every 2 years for a new treatment because the effects last up a year or more. So I'm guessing that's my future now :X
Some FAQs About Thermage
(This part is from the brochure I took at the clinic. Just FYI lol)
Unlike lasers, Thermage works on all skin types and colours.
What kind of results should I expect?
Everyone can see some collagen tightening.
Many patients have seen:
How does it work?
As you age, the collagen in your skin breaks down resulting in wrinkles and sagging skin. Thermage uses patented radiofrequency (RF) technology to safely heat the deeper layers of your skin, stimulating existing collagen and promoting new collagen growth for younger looking skin.
How long will the results last?
The effects continue to improve for up to six months following a single treatment. Results can last for years depending on your skin condition and natural aging process.
How long before I can return to my normal activities?
There's no special care needed after the procedure and most patients return to their regular activities immediately following treatment.
If you have any questions about the treatment, feel free to drop me a comment, email me or DM me on Instagram (I'm most active here).
